Ahh, February – our annual ice-ball to the face. With temps now typically milder in January (aka, the “new December”), we start letting our guard down and then boom; Feb shows up and dumps us head-first into a snowbank.

This year, the difference might be that buyers are getting hit twice – first with the weather, and then with the market. Low-interest rates can warm the heart, but the cold reality of low inventory levels has iced many potential buyers in place. Consider this: in Jan 2011 there were over 60,000 homes on the market in Southeast Michigan (8 month supply); currently, there are only 11,000 homes on the market (1.5 month supply). Simply put, there are a lot of people fighting over very few options, leaving a frosty landscape for those in search of a house.
