As the Detroit development/re-development boom continues to expand westward, the proposed re-development of the Grosfield Building in Southwest Detroit would move progress beyond Corktown, and into the northern reaches of Mexicantown. Located at the corner of Michigan Avenue and 23rd Street, The Grosfield Lofts project would transform the crumbling Grosfield Building into a mixed use development that would feature either retail or a restaurant on the lower level, with residential above.
It was reported in Crain’s Business Detroit last week that the residential component will feature 20 for-sale units in the 700 sqft to 800 sqft range, most with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom, priced from around $175k to $250k. The $4M projected headed by Warehouse Development could get started later this spring, with construction expected to take 9 to 12 months. Pre-sales for the residential units is expected to start within the next week or so.
