Lest anyone think that new development in the City of Detroit is still limited (or adjacent) to the Woodward Corridor, the 7.Liv Project broke ground last month at the intersection of 7 Mile & Livernois.
Located along the western border of the University District and the Sherwood Forest neighborhood, the $8.3M development will include the re-purposing of the former B. Siegel department store (and the razing of several other buildings on the site), to create 20,500 sqft of commercial space, as well as 10 residential apartment units. The residential units will range in size from 600 to 1,100 sqft, with studio, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom options.
Real estate developer Matt Hessler is spearheading the project, which is expected to take about 14 months to complete. Hessler, who lives in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood, recently completed a redevelopment project in Midtown; the 9,700 sqft building at Cass Ave. & Peterboro street is the home to his Iconic Tattoo shop, as well as The Peterboro restaurant and 8 Degrees Plato beer store.
