I think we can all agree that 2020 needs to go, but how will you ring in the new year this time around? Most of us will probably have a low key celebration at home in the interest of protecting our health.  Since the topic of health, especially immune health, has been top of mind for all of us this year, here’s a healthy hot toddy recipe that will help you welcome 2021 and support a healthy immune system at the same time.

Ginger is soothing to the digestive system and helps fight inflammation while enhancing your immune response. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.

Apples, especially the skin, contain a flavonoid called quercetin which also boosts immunity and helps control inflammation.

Pomegranate, another powerful anti-inflammatory food, also contains Vitamins C and E which can help boost your body’s production of antibodies to enhance your immunity.

Apple-Pom Hot Toddy
1 serving

1 T grated fresh ginger (or 1 tsp ground ginger)
1.5 oz bourbon
4 oz apple cider
1-2 tsp honey
1 T pomegranate seeds
apple slices to garnish
dash of cinnamon (optional)

Add grated ginger to a mug and add 6 ounces of boiling water. Stir in bourbon, honey, apple cider, honey, and pomegranate seeds. Garnish with apple slices and a dash of cinnamon if desired.
