ON THE OUTSIDE AND LOVING IT – INSIDE SKYE CANYON

On the edge of Las Vegas, in between and about equal distance from The Strip and Mount Charleston, is a new kind of master-planned development. Skye Canyon refers to itself as the “base camp for the great outdoors.”

The 1,700-acre community embraces its outsider reputation by aspiring to serve as the bridge between comfortable living and all the outdoors has to offer. With neighborhood names like Teton Falls, Everygreen, Whisper Peak and Alpine Crossings, you get the idea. Its neighborhoods and parks are connected through dedicated bike lanes and walking paths, and Skye Canyon made it a point to design around open spaces and not just try to fit one in. Mini parks with play areas dot the surrounding gated neighborhoods. Sweeping views of the mountains can be seen from the north and west as well as a gorgeous view of the Las Vegas valley below.

The community is designed for families, couples and active adults searching for a home that revolves around a healthy lifestyle. Another one of its mottos is “Fit Lives Here.” Besides sponsoring a number of events throughout the year, such as Skye Canyon’s Annual Trail & Road Run, residents have access to Skye Fitness, which features a full-service gym, fitness classes, locker rooms, junior Olympic swimming pool, sports field and basketball court. Skye Fitness is located at the hub of the community – Skye Canyon Park. The 15-acre park includes a splash pad, tot lot, Skye Bistro coffee and wine bar, and jogging path.

A new 125,000-square-foot Smith’s Marketplace opened in June, complete with restaurants, food, apparel, housewares, toys, hardware and more.

Residents have access to nearby excursions at Mt. Charleston, Kyle Canyon, Lee Canyon and Red Rock Canyon and receive the Skye Pass, which provides discounts to a number of destinations and services such as Paiute Golf Resort and Lee Canyon lift tickets.

Skye Canyon recently released its second phase, which features six neighborhoods spread over 213 acres, with walking trails, bike lanes and a two-acre park. Builders include: Pardee Homes, Pulte Homes, Richmond American Homes and Woodside Homes.
